Matt Shaw Concrete, Inc. is thrilled to be among the 2022 SBCA Builder of the Year Award winners. The Santa Barbara Contractors Association presents these awards annually to celebrate excellence within the Santa Barbara and Central Coast building community. Projects are judged anonymously by a panel of established contractors, subcontractors, and notable leaders in the construction community.

Well Worth the Wait
The full Avenue Del Mar project took place over the course of a couple of years, with the foundation being laid in 2020. The final result is a gorgeous coastal oasis in Carpinteria built from the ground up for our client, RHC Construction, Inc.
Dynamic architectural elements include a podium-style layout with columns and dowels supporting 6,450 square feet and inviting verandas. The rear patio, complete with a chimney and spacious fireplace, offers prime lounge areas for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

Board-Formed Concrete Comes to Life
We used board-formed concrete throughout the project, which features a wood grain texture on its face, to produce an organic aesthetic with a contemporary touch. This architectural finish softens and warms the cooler appearance of the concrete with a timeless texture that perfectly compliments the wood façade of the house. The process of patterning concrete in this way requires meticulous attention to detail and was incorporated from the facade to the outdoor fireplace for a striking design.
