As a contractor, you may be working on an extensive renovation, transforming an old home into a stunning family refuge. Some projects will be wrapping up at the start of the summer and clients are looking forward to spending warm evenings outdoors with friends and family.

This article highlights three concrete trends that can transform any backyard into a summer oasis, perfectly tailored to your client’s lifestyle.

#1 Patios

Whether used to host guests, hang out as a family, or quietly read a book, an outdoor patio is one of the best ways to enjoy the beautiful Santa Barbara weather at home. With the right people working on it, you can create a deck that maximizes your project’s space and fits into the backyard, even if your client’s property is small.

Though constrained by a small lot on the Mesa, the owners of La Plata envisioned a pleasant outdoor area. Working with limited space, we utilized the building's shape to maximize square footage and increase the usable area. What was previously a small bed of dirt became a gracious deck- the central gathering place for their home.

#2 Barbecues

With summer around the corner, people are preparing for evening cookouts and weekend get-togethers. A built-in barbecue brings life and energy to a backyard space, creating a perfect environment for social evenings at home.

We had the pleasure of creating this barbecue for a local Goleta family.  Designed with the mission of bringing people together, this space embodies a value the owners prioritize in their daily lives. The polished countertops double as space for cooking as well as a table for guests. The outlets, integrated into the sides of the structure, bring ease to the cooking process, allowing the use of electric appliances outside.

#3 Fire PlacesSitting with friends by a fire is an experience that is hard to beat. Whether your client has a large or small garden, they may be looking for a creative way of bringing their family together - a fire pit is a simple yet effective option for this. If designed well, a fireplace can enhance the atmosphere of any style home. To complement a contemporary house, we use minimalist features - top cast finish concrete with modern lines. Meanwhile, the natural aesthetics of sandstone can highlight the warmth of a craftsman home, encouraging connection around the fire.
